brain injury (also called a "head injury") must include trauma to the head followed by at least one of the following: - any period of loss of consciousness - any loss of memory for events immediately before or after the accident - any alteration in mental state at the time of the accident or - focal neurological signs or symptoms indicative of brain injury, which may be transient or permanent. Traumatic brain injury may also be diagnosed by the findings of diagnostic imaging studies. A blow to the head is not enough to diagnose a traumatic head injury.
